Masters in pastoral ministry degree

Marian University’s Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry (MAPM) program provides students with the necessary skills and education to be pastoral ministers in the church. Not only is our vision to educate transformative leaders, but our mission is to promote our Franciscan values: the dignity of the individual, peace and justice, reconciliation, and responsible stewardship. These values, as well as guidelines for certification as an ecclesial minister, provide a strong foundation for those called to serve God’s mission.

Completion of this terminal degree will help you grow professionally, intellectually, spiritually, personally, and pastorally so that you are equipped to serve the pastoral needs of churches across the world. This is a two-year, full-time graduate degree program at our Indianapolis campus and requires experience in pastoral ministry.

Pastoral ministry curriculum

The M.A. in Pastoral Ministry program offers 30 credit hours of graduate-level courses in practical theology, sacred scripture, liturgy/sacraments, moral theology and ethics, spirituality, and church history. Small class sizes allow for a learning environment where students reflect theologically on life and pastoral studies.

Professor Mark Reasoner - Theology

In addition to the core courses, students take two required seminars on organizational and pastoral skills, and two semesters of a supervised ministry experience. The program provides an in-depth academic curriculum and pastoral engagement that link intellectual formation with personal and ministerial experiences. After graduating from the program, students are well-prepared to serve the church as pastoral ministers.
