Masters in biomedical sciences (BMS) program

Marian University’s Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree includes two-track options. With the one-year track, students have the opportunity to enhance their medical or professional school applications by completing graduate science courses (similar to the first year of medical school.) With the two-year curriculum, students who wish to pursue a career in the life/biomedical sciences field or in research laboratories can gain the skills and credentials needed to do so.

Courses are taught by Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM) faculty, giving students an opportunity to learn and work with professors who have shared research interests. This allows students to grow academically in an environment focused on the biomedical and life sciences.

BMS curriculum

Marian’s biomedical sciences program offers students multiple concentrations in a first-class location. In 2011, the Wall Street Journal ranked Indianapolis as the life science hub of the United States. For students interested in continuing onto medical school or earning a professional degree, there is a coursework track that focuses on medical courses such as Medical Biochemistry, Immunology, and Pharmacology. This track provides students with an opportunity to complete 38 credit-hours to finish their master’s degree in one year.

For students pursuing a career in the life or biomedical sciences, we offer a two-year research track. This 38 credit-hour program integrates courses similar to those offered by medical schools with research courses. This helps students develop critical thinking and research methods that prepare them for careers as research scientists.
